More About Gas Prices

If you go to http://oklahomagasprices.com or http://missourigasprices.com, you can see the cheapest and most expensive gas prices in your area. There is one of these websites for every state, check them out save some money. Oh, to make you feel a little better, I heard gas in Atlanta is $6.00 a gallon in downtown. But Bush has said he is going to dip into reserves to help lower prices, and there is a bill going through Congress to put a cap on prices at $3.30 a gallon. I'm not sure how I feel about the second part but hey, I'm a poor college student.

Gas Prices

I don't know about you guys but my car is permanently parked. Because of the Hurricane, the spat with Venezuela and a million and a half other factors, gas up here is $3.00 a gallon! I have never paid that much for gas in my life. How much is it in Oklahoma? We're still going to St. Louis but now we have to set aside more money just for the damn gas. We're estimating about $100 per car round trip, simply because it's guaranteed that gas will be even more expensive up there since it is a bigger city. I hate money.

Photography

I just got back from Picture This, which is the photography store in Springfield. Luckily all I had to do was tell them who my professor was and they got all the supplies I would need. Unfortunately it cost $151. I don't think these supplies will last me all semester, Mike, the professor, told us to get at least 7 rolls of film. Last year, we got 10 and those barely lasted half the semester. Today, I bought 9 rolls of film, I hope they will last all semester.

Labor Day

Well, the plans are final. This weekend we are going to Six Flags in St. Louis. We are leaving Saturday after Amy gets off work. Patrick and I are going in my car, Amy and Jazmyne will be in Amy's car. Saturday night we are stopping in Rolla to have dinner with Charles, then we are going to St. Louis to Patrick's parents' house. We are staying the night at their house and going to Six Flags on Sunday, we're also staying Sunday night at Patrick's house and then leaving Monday morning to come back to school. Oh, this is more for my parents but, I had to drop Calculus because it is too hard. Dr. Jeanie is pleading with Dr. Browning to get me in one of her classes that is already full. If I can't get in, I will just have to drop the class without a replacement, I will still have enough hours to be a full time student but I won't have enough to be a sophomore next semester. I hope I get in. Now I actually have to do my homework.

More Randomness

I got this question from the random questions it asks you for your profile:

You get to ride the big roller coaster three times in a row. What will keep your dad from taking a bite out of your candy apple?
My answer:
Two Things, #1, I won't ride a roller coaster once let alone three times. Number two, I don't like candy apples, so why would I have one, and if I did why would I care if my dad ate the whole thing. He could feed it to Goofy for all I care.

Sounds logical to me.

News

I had to make two posts today because I thought it might be faster to load with all of the pictures I posted. First I must make an obvious statement but it must be said: College is f-ing expensive. After I bought the majority (what I thought was ALL) of my books I was relieved because it didn't seem nearly as expensive as some people have said. But then I found out there were two books I needed that I didn't have, one for International Relations, one for Photography. So, of course, I went back to the bookstore to get them, the one for IR wasn't too expensive, just about $20 for the course study packet which I can't return. Was I that lucky with Photo? Of course not. That book, USED was $55! Then I have to drop an estimated $200-$250 on supplies for the class and that is on top of the $200 I already spent on my camera. I love photography but I don't know if I will be able to afford it this semester. Speaking of money, I had a job interview yesterday for the Office Assistant for the Professor at the head of the Math Academy. I was interviewed by her receptionist and secretary. They seemed impressed with the computer skills I have and the programs I know fluently, they also liked that I had been a teacher's aide last year, I guess because I already know how to use the standard office equipment. They said I will know by the end of next week if I have it or not. If I don't get it, it won't be all bad. Amy, one of the girls down the hall, works as a dog trainer at Pets Mart and she said they are desperate for more dog trainers. She already talked to her boss about me and I went to meet him and explained that I would apply if I don't get the other job. It would be really great to be a dog trainer. I would make about $7 an hour plus 20% commission off of each lesson that is sold in my name. It would also mean an all expenses paid trip home! The regional dog trainer for Pets Mart works in Edmond, and I would have to go there for her to certify me to train. I would also get a 20% discount which means more treats for the puppy. Oh, how many teenagers don't know how to do laundry? Apparntly I am the only one who does. I had to teach Jessica how and then had to explain it step by step to Charles. I can understand not knowing the setting to put it on because the machines we have are confusing, thats the only help Jessica needed. But how can you be 18 and not know what colors you can wash together or what types of clothes to wash together. Charles thought he could wash his jeans with his jeans with his sheets and his towels on the heavy duty cycle. Then he didn't know where to put the detergent. BOYS! I'm sure you're tired of reading now, and I have a ton and a half of homework for the weekend, so Good Night.

Pictures

Quote of the Day: "Break out of the widgetness." - Dr. Jeanie

This is Charles, he is directly across the hall from me. I know you won't believe this but he is actually a bigger smartass than me. Hey, don't look at me in that tone of voice. Yes, I see your looks, but it is true he really is.

This is Jessica, she lives in my suite at the end of the hall. Her roommate, Brooke, was gone when I took these pictures so I don't have any of her but she is from Broken Arrow.

This is Sarah and Eric. Sarah is my roommate, her mother also went to Drury. Eric lives in Wallace, the scary dorms next door. I say scary because it was built in like 1919 and looks like function and safety were an after thought. The fire exit is a tall narrow spiral staircase, SPIRAL. Who is going to go down a spiral staircase in flip-flops and they're p.j.s (we are in college, that is what we wear) and not fall to they're death in a fire, stay calm my ass. Eric, by the way is also on the soccer team.

This is Jazmyne, she is Raegan's roommate and lives next door to Amy.

This is Patrick and Amy. Patrick is just being a dork, as usual. He is from Saint Louis. For Labor Day, if the plans don't change, we are going to stay at his parent's house and go to Six Flags. As of now, Amy, Patrick, Jazmyne, and I will be the ones going. Charles is going home to Rolla, Dork.

This is Brian and Raegan, Raegan lives in the same suite as Amy. Brian is a friend of Kolby's, whose door they are standing in front of.

This is Amy, she lives down the hall from me. She is from Monett but was born in Bartlesville. I don't think I spelled that right. She is a dog trainer at Pets Mart.

My mommy in the hotel, in her favorite attire, with the blanket she left there, poor Mama.

My daddy on the computer in the hotel on the weekend I moved into my dorm.

First Day of Class

My first day of class was wonderful. Granted I only had two classes and I got to sleep until 10am, go to two classes come back and take a nap, but still. I have to say I am extremely impressed so far not only with the kindness and welcoming from the students at Drury but also from the faculty. How many college professors do you know that give their students HOME phone numbers? All of my teachers have so far. The only limit they gave us was not to call them after midnight but they said during finals week even that doesn't matter. Dr. VanDenBurg (Internation Relations) gave us his home phone, cell phone, office phone, map to his office, the hours he would be in his office, and the hours and places he teaches. Another question, how many students at a state school know the name and major of every person in every class? I would have to say not many. But I guess when your largest class is 30 people and your smallest is 7 it isn't hard. Yes, I did say my smallest class was 7, my photography class is 7 people. I love this school.

H4H

Today was great, we went to Habitat for Humanity today. We didn't actually get to help build a house but we will get to in October. Today we helped at the retail store run by H4H by moving bricks, unloading trucks, sorting whatever came off the trucks and sorting wood trim that had been donated. It was a lot of fun except when we had to hide from the resident cat named Habicat, cute huh? After that we ate and took naps for two hours, yes naps. For dinner tonight we were invited to the homes of faculty members, it was great, we got to meet a lot of the professors that we either have or will have at some point. Then there was another monsoon and everyone decided that they just had to go to Target (note the sarcasm). So we did and, of course, as soon as we walked in the door I forgot what I was there for. I can't wait for class to start, there is so much down time. Of course, I love down time because I love sleep but after so long you get caught up on sleep, the net, T.V. and your movie collection, then what are you to do. Oh well, Goodnight.

First Days of College

Well I moved in at Drury yesterday and have been so busy. I am completely unpacked, but I have yet to have time to take out the trash. Yesterday I went to buy my books, it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected, only $273.75. Yes, only. Today we learned what our community service project is going to be, we will be helping Habitat for Humanity. We aren't sure what we will be doing, but they told so to wear tennis shoes and clothes we don't mind becoming another color. I'm thinking painting which would be awesome. The food they have had is better than I expected, I think I have eaten more fruit in the last two days than I have had in 6 months. Today really wasn't that busy, we went to Convocation, Alpha, and then we went ice skating, it was so much fun. While we were in the skating rink, the bottom fell out of the sky. It was raining so hard it flooded most of the streets. My suitemates and I left the rink early because we were tired and didn't know how long it was going to rain. My suitemates are Sarah (my bathroom mate(that sounds kinda dirty but you know what I mean)), Brooke (next door to me), and Jessica (end of the hall). They are so cool, we all get along great! It is kinda scary though because we have only lived together for two days and we can already finish each other's sentences. Being in the dorms is so weird, yesterday when Brooke and I had to run to Walmart we realized that we didn't have to ask for permission to leave. Weird. One of the wierdest things is that since we leave the suite door open (our individual doors are always locked) when I walk out of my room in the morning I see straight in to Charles' room since he is up before me. Anyway after the rain stopped, Charles, Amy, Jazmyne, and I went to "The Square" which is the popular area of downtown were the clubs are. We went to this coffee shop called The Mudhouse. It had the best coffee and tea I have ever had. I noticed earlier that I am still watching my step expecting to trip over C.M. and it is still new to not be attacked by a puppy and a hungry little brother when I walk in the door. Well I should probably get off and go to bed (after the South Park marathon, of course) since I have to wake up early in the morning. I love you all. Goodnight.
